The Weekly Fruit Salad 03

June 22, 2008

fruit salad-300

Fruit Salad? Well fruit is healthy for you, naturally that is number 1… number 2 is the fact that this week was jam packed with incredible, inspiring, amazing, wonderful, wise posts (did I go a bit wild with the description? Naaaah it’s all true!).

So please note from this day forth you are all fruits in the fruit salad of life, which type you are is to your choosing and yes there are some nuts along the way…

Before I really get into this here fruit salad of amazing posts I just want to shock everyone, I know, doesn’t it sound scary! First things first I’ll admit that I do read religious posts but I never comment on them, apologies for this. Reason? There are many which I am not going to get into during a fruit salad. This week was literally a “crazy” one because when you take into effect what I have just said, me commenting on 3 such blog posts is almost enough to give the few people that know me seriarse heart attacks. I shan’t give you a full description just go read if you’re curious :)

~ Lessons from the man born blind by !* Emphatic Asterisk

~ We all come from the same place, God and Evolution hand in hand by AmberMoon

~ Why be a Christian? by Cydonia Mensae

Ok breathe I know the shock was a bit much but you’ll get over it well enough with Psychscribe’s post Relationships can be so hard part 2. Yes it is the follow up to last weeks part 1 so all I will say is *ahem* I’ve realised a few things… too embarrassing to say here so just head over there if you really want to know.

*calm*

Right now I just have to say that I have been shocked beyond belief with the revelation that Egypt is in fact not in Africa, I know, it’s rather shocking isn’t it. Wow, now that feels good to get off my chest phew!

Now there is a good question that keeps popping up in my mind (yes it sometimes works)… how and why would such a world renown company such as Kellogg’s come up with such a dangerous concept “lego snacks“? Well anyway’s all I know is when I come to answering Joy’s question about What my favourite cereal is… I can only answer with a resounding Lego Snacks. Besides if you really think about it Lego food could quite possibly save a whole nation if not the world!!! I am dead seriarse here and now with Ilegirl’s addition of Biofuel, well, its surely a done deal!

Ah we must never stop dreaming, so important to life and yet so often we tend to get so caught up in living in the past or present that the future, our wants, our dreams get forgotten. I am born dreamer, perhaps this is unrealistic but one day I will, and I mean will, land on the Moon for a spot of wine (a spot).

A friend of mine said to me recently that it is never too late to begin. Sometimes, as I said above, life grabs us, throws us into a situation and we start following that road and before we know it our dreams have been pushed under the carpet with no hope of seeing sunlight ever again. The one thing we must always remember though is that life happens when we make other plans, if we want to do something we must go out and try, if life throws us beans and we can’t stand them grab an apple and take a bite. Congrats Martha, I hope it all comes off and this time next week we’ll be hearing that news :D … dreams do come true, when the time is right anything is possible! You can do it girlfriend!

In the mood for a dinner party? A little while ago I set up a skype chat room for bloggers but be warned if you venture in there it’s at your own risk, I hold no accountability for what takes place there. Following on with a similar theme Single for a Reason has started doing dinner parties with her readers, how awesome is that??? I mean in reality who ever said we can’t have a dinner party that crosses continents, oceans or universes? No one exactly! Last night she had dinner with Razzbuffnik, someone who often has me floored by his indepth knowledge of art and humour.

My mind really boggled at her Intersections Named Flood post, not only is the photo-art incredible, the words that follow absolutely amazing! I just love abstracts, less rules, more freedom for the mind to roam, ah the bliss!

Are you a parent? A wanna be parent? Expecting a sample human? Want to own a sample human? Then I think you should first or rather start by reading a little bit about not being superman and the juice on what happens when Momma aint a happy bunny. Yes scary isn’t it? Wait… Here is one specially about the teenage-mutant-syndrome and how to handle it, ok fine, perhaps just one of the many problems you might/will face pretty soon if not already. Personally my chimps will be born with straight-jackets!

While on the topic of strange family happenings and more importantly, relationships, Hayden over at Persistent Illusion has written a book folks (yes you can do the loopy dance), it’s called “The Woman’s Relationship Bible: How I Converted a Romantic Atheist” - how cool is that!!! Good Luck Hayden, I just know it’s going to be a success and no doubt before you know it you’ll be on Oprah! Personally I feel that, once published, this book should be given out at schools world wide, especially to South African men (no offence boys)!

Phew what a week! !* Emphatic Asterisk has also been busy with her incredible creations go check them out, wows!

I can honestly say that AmberMoon’s post “The choices we make… Choosing bad things” got under my skin for some reason. She made mention of something I have been battling with. Her words are so true that I am floored, I can’t even blame it on standing on the snail! Thus I shall go forth and choose the good healthy things and not the bad dingbats. This is all I am saying on the matter and you can’t force me to say anything else other than if you read it you will understand… Just between you and me, I’ve decided to make a sacred contract with myself, for myself, about myself… it is between me and the moon but perhaps more of us should put these contracts in place. Lets start a revolution! Sometimes we just have to let things go … point blank just let them go!

In order to change the subject in a really fast manner, there has been a wealth of incredible poetry, my eyes and soul boggled galore! Cordie’s Silent Secrets and Now I lay down to sleep, Vishesh with his poem The Ever Lasting Observer, Enreal’s The Mist, Glaize with Crossroads, Amandzings I won’t say I told you so … wow WOW wow! You guys always amaze me, your talent seems to know no bounds! Each week I find myself floored with the beauty of knowing such amazing souls exist in this world, your words always so woven and true. Your light shines through like a bright light within the darkness of night!

Hmmm… talking about Secrets… nah sorry I have none apart from the fact that I am truly innocent, but alas, if I were to tell you that what are the chances of you actually believing me?

No, sorry just not going to do it… moving along swiftly

The spirit of Do Do often can lead us into believing the myth of striving to become perfect which in reality is only our perception turning into a deception at the end of a really long hard day. Perhaps Words really do get in the way and we don’t show enough gratitude to those around in the right way.

That’s the fruit salad for the week, many different inspiring fruits to choose from but all in one bowl its wow!

To end I would just like to make a public announcement…

Should you for some reason decide to tag me for any particular Meme please know that you are in reality asking for trouble and I can’t be held accountable for what you get from me. Prime example being my version of Vishesh’s Tag entitled 10 things you didn’t know about me Meme which was then picked up by Ravings from the Shell…. brave? Dare you… End of warning.

… A little bird whispered in my little earball something about me being lazy in the tagging… tsk you forced my hand! Brit in sunny California you’re it!

Ok ok CordieB, Persistent Illusion, AmberMoon, Sorrow, Surface Earth, Deeps, Recovered Bulimic, !* Emphatic Asterisk, Cydonia Mensae, Glaize, Razzbuffnik, Amandzing, A Pot of Gold, Psychscribe, Enreal, Heart to Heart, Ilegirl, Joy Erickson, Lara Gardner’s Weblog, Life and thoughts of a superior being, Meditations, Save Our Species, Single for a Reason, Urban Pixie, Vanessa Leigh’s Blog, Symbolicgodzilla … if you read this here list and I forgot you, apologies, you are also tagged.

… all blame goes to Brit, I take no responsibility as always … I am innocent till proven guilty :D

Fancy a spot of Golf ladies? Head over to the green but before you do make sure to follow the rules ;-)

Laughter really is the best medicine… it can make the rain go away and only come back again on mother’s washing day… why not laugh and if all else fails remember what it was like to learn how to ride a bike!

Thanks to all of you for the many laughs we had this week, the inspiring posts and wisdom! If I forgot anyone of the list, apologies.

10 things you don’t know about me Meme

June 22, 2008

Vishesh has tagged me once more, ok I admit that I snuck passed a few but I didn’t want to bore you with my hi-jinks or sanitarium visits. This time it is to reveal ten things people in the blogging world do not know about me… rofl now this should be interesting….

So here goes:-

1) I was named after my two dead grandmothers, God rest their souls, one was a drug addict and the other a saint, I am neither

2) I am actually very innocent and have mastered the dumb look when people talk about such things as… sorry am too innocent to say. I don’t flirt, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke and I definitely don’t dance (Its eveeeeel).

3) This life started in 1978 on a fine Spring day at 10.05 pm hence I am a night owl and am known to never sleep and if I do it is not for long.

4) When I paint it is normally at night while the world sleeps, I irritate the neighbours by playing that song by Divinyls loud and yes I sing along. When the painting is done there is normally more paint on my face, clothes and the walls than on the actual canvas. Hey *shrug* I have fun and I never know what I am going to paint before I start.

5) I am a very very seriarse person who believes that humour is for the fishes in the sea much like that song by Catatonia. Laughing is hard for me and I tend to only have seriarse friends, laughing is just wrong wrong wrong! I am seriarse stop laughing!

6) When I drive in a real car I have a tendency to aim for traffic officers, I know shock horror, but they do tend to get in my way at the best of times. I try not do this while on a bicycle due to the fact that they seem to have been training up and can run quite fast, faster than I can peddle.

7) I am the only child by blood but have a younger half brother, older half brother and a older half sister. My direct family is a flow chart, a complicated one. It makes interesting reading on the family tree trying to work out where the “connecting” lines go. My family has helped build a nation, one person at a time. Just in case you don’t believe me, my mother had 18 aunts and uncles and that was a “slow” generation. Alas we are the last on the tree due to the huge lack of TV’s in my family history…. yes the rumours are true, I am related to Kevin Barry, yip, the guy Britain “sorted” out.

9) I haven’t met Nelson Mandela nor have I met the Queen. That said, she has previously invited me for a spot of tea, but alas I had to decline due to prior arrangements with my dentist that just couldn’t be missed. See, I had contracted the politicus-bullshiticus virus that is so rampant here in SA and with it being spread by word-of-mouth it started affecting my gold implanted teeth. It was a life and death moment yes.

10) I am only grumpy in the morning if you point out that my socks don’t match, if my pants are inside out or my top back to front. The arrogance of thinking that it wasn’t done on purpose astounds me and I tend to lose my cool. Once the cool is lost it could be tickets and generally I start to suck on ice-cubes, do not be alarmed it works quite well. I learnt this trick while recovering from the above said virus, it really does have a calming effect and I will recommend it to anyone, even Tom Jones.

Well those are the top 10 things I could think of that perhaps you didn’t know about me.

To summarise: I am innocent, seriarse, a safe driver, never grumpy, innocent, I don’t laugh, hate humour, my ancestors populated the nation and finally I don’t cry when I stand on a snail… I sob.

Hope that answered your Q Vishesh… you know me, tag me and expect trouble….

Tagged? Going to do it Marco Polo style (not the sweets)… if you’re reading this line then I am patting you on the shoulder and whispering in your ear “Tagged, you’re it!”

Dare you *innocent grin*

Things that make me interesting and unique….

June 9, 2008

Ok so Amberfireinus wrote a post entitled Things that make me interesting and unique… and at first I felt relief that it wasn’t a meme but then I got to thinking that perhaps it is in fact a great exercise to look at my good points, funny habits and the stranger than fiction things that I have gotten up to… so here is my try at it.

Ok up to this point it has taken me 30 minutes sitting here thinking hard…

It is because there is so much ok

I have been diagnosed as an empath. I say diagnosed for the fact that I am very sensitive to my surroundings, be it people, animals or just nature. If a room is chaotic I feel it and it disturbs me. I can’t take a crying animal, I feel its pain as if it were my own. When I am around people I feel their moods and find it easy to relate to what they are going through, whether it be a dramatic situation or a happy moment. As I said diagnosed, growing up I and still to this day, I find it difficult at times to separate theirs from mine emotions, I am an empath, I feel.

I talk to animals all the time, they come to me and we relate. Perhaps this is insanity but I have been called Dr Dolittle by many. At random a cat will walk up to me and start talking and I talk back in its language, same goes for dogs. I am still learning to talk lizardlish and birdlish, I can’t whistle no matter how hard I try!

I am a painter and have been creating since I was really young, I am self taught in most of the things I do. At the age of 27 I decided to try my hand at oil painting classes, I didn’t last long for the fact that it prohibited me in my creativity, I can’t follow rules well. I ended up painting Indian stripes on my cheeks and getting everyone tipsy on the new bottle of wine I had brought along to try out. I am a hands on person and tend to make something out of anything. A lot of my art has been sold and it is how I survived when I was homeless. Being hands on also leads me to build things without instructions, I love the challenge and how things work always fascinates me no end.

I love cooking but stopped doing it since I have lived alone and prefer pizza out of box more than cooking for myself. When I do cook I have a tendency not to follow instructions and use post it notes instead, such as “don’t put fingers on hot plates”, “don’t put fingers on stove”, “don’t drop bowl on feet” etc - cooking is an adventure for me. I love cakes but can’t cook them for squat… I eat them!

Phew this is hard, what an experience writing this is!

I got my first speeding fine when I was 18, it was the total value of my first pay cheque. I was only going 170 in a 120 km/h zone, they didn’t understand that I was late for a party no matter how hard I tried to explain it. I am a legend in the local traffic department for the fact that 6 months after I got the ticket I knocked over the poor woman testing me during my drivers license test. I have not been back since in fear of retaliation.

I have been travelling alone on planes since I was three, it comes naturally to me and I feel more at home on a plane than on solid ground. I am most at home in airports and have slept in many, the staff are the friendliest and I have always found their blankets top class. My normal seat while travelling is the jump seat in the cockpit and at one stage I knew all the hostesses and pilots on SAA. They’ve all since retired so no more jump seats, I’m most upset about that! I LOVE flying!

From a young age I have been able to understand both written and spoken German. I have also lived and travelled to some strange places, Saudi Arabia, Kenya and Brazil to mention a few. Because of this I can speak basic Arabic, German, Dutch, Portuguese and Swahili, my French is terrible. The one thing that most people comment on when they hear me speaking their language is the fact that I get the pronunciation spot on. The languages that are native to my country I can speak Afrikaans and of course English with basic Xhosa and Zulu. I love languages and find it easy to pick them up but I have never concentrated on them long enough to learn them fully. If I meet a person who speaks a foreign language I try to learn the basics and so you will often find me replying to a comment in your home tongue if you are not English.

I love countries and their cultures, by the age of 10 I could recite all the names of the countries in the world as well as their codes. I have since put that to rest and now claim not to remember any when asked, this is me trying to be normal and not have obsessive tendencies.

My family is of Aristo cat origins and so if you ever find yourself sitting at a table with more than one setting of cutlery you can give me a shout and I’ll walk you through it. Growing up we were taught high etiquette and how to curtsy… ok stop laughing now! For this fact my family has family trees dating back to the 1600’s and earlier along with a wealth of heritage in the form of published books, monuments and stuff in museums. The dress I was christened in was 150 years old (so glad I didn’t spill purity on it, knowing me that alone is a pure miracle!).

I don’t belong to any religion but take wisdom from the holy books of all. I was brought up spiritual with the belief that we are all reincarnated. From a young age my mother asked me who I was in my past life and who I want to be in the next, it is a normal thought process for me and so anything to do with that realm of thing I am comfortable with. My family believed me to be the reincarnation of my Gran for many years and say I carry her wisdom in my soul. Strange upbringing huh!

I have met musicians, shopped with Noel Gallagher, drank whiskey (my favourite) with Jack White of the White Stripes and partied with Matt Bellamy from Muse. I love music and have been to over 200 concerts, landed up in medical tents from being kicked in the head by crowd surfing grannies.

I am known as a walking encyclopedia to my friends, I remember dates, numbers, faces and whole conversations easily. I am a wealth of useless information and facts. It’s nice to have but can be a pain in the royal …

I am a Virgo, a proud one, I am NOT fussy at all nor am I pedantic. If you have a painting on the wall that is skew I will be forced to correct it for you. I try not to offend anyone by cleaning cutlery (when there are remnants of the last meal on them) while they are looking and I will send a glass back with the waiter if it has finger prints on or isn’t clean. As I said I am not pedantic but if the duvet cover is put on wrong or the buttoned up end is not on the right side I can not sleep in it till its fixed. As I said I am not of the fussy kind at all, just a few things like everyone else surely! No I am not anal I am a Virgo! Before I forget, don’t talk about animals while I am eating, I will literally stop and not finish my food, I am visual.

People have tried to hypnotise me but none has succeeded to date, each time they leave me frustrated. Now I pretend to act like a chicken when they tell me “to” so that they don’t feel so bad.

Ok running out of steam now and putting you to sleep no doubt…

I am a dancer, I dance to the under melody and I feel the music fully. People say that my body doesn’t move normally, that it is fluid, I don’t know if its true because I get lost in it. I love it so much that I have no problems dancing through the night either…

I will try everything once except bungee jumping. I have done some crazy things in my life, most of them no one would believe and when they do hear they think its a joke. Guess the biggest thing about me is that I believe in living and living fully…

Phew ok I think I’ve written a book, if you got to this point hats off… as Amber said I hope this gives you some insight into who I am… It was a weird experience writing this for sure!

So tell me, have you come to the same conclusion as me yet?

I am insane…

Book Tag

June 6, 2008

These things seem to find me, I was tagged by Spillay @ A pot of gold. Well you guys should know me by now, tag me and you get something different or at least not too serious. There are some rules to this one though, sorry I was forced to break them on principle :)

Here are the rules I broke… but the ones you must obviously follow ;-)

**************************************************************

1. Pick up the nearest book
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the fifth sentence
4. Post the next 3 sentences
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge the person who tagged you

**************************************************************

The book that I read often either online or in real paper format is the Tao of Pooh, surprised? I love it to bits, it is filled with tips and information on how to get honey out of life…

image

So what’s on page 123? Here goes…..

I have selected my definition of page 123 as follows

123 ÷ (1 x 2 + 2 x 3) x 3 + 3

….. In the story of the Ugly Duckling, when did the Ugly Duckling stop feeling Ugly? When he realised that he was a Swan. Each of us has something special, a swan of some sort, hidden inside somewhere. But until we recognize that it’s there, what can we do but splash around, treading water? The Wise are Who They Are. They work with what they’ve got and do what they can do. ……

And now for the tagging, I choose:

YOU!

If you want to, have time to or don’t want to - easy as Larry surfing out in the Antarctic… what ever floats your boat or blows your hair back… let me know if you’re game I’d be interested in having a read :) (Have a slight book fetish)

h1

Laughing the best medicine? Lets share it around…

May 8, 2008

Laughing is the best medicine no matter what they say… Yeah doctors have their purpose, their medications can make you well, their drugs get you high, but laughter above all else speeds it all up…

I posted earlier today Barry Hiltons take on stupidity… I’ve printed out my sign and will now carry it with me… nah not for me (come now!) but for those others… yeah you know what I mean … those questions about how we do washing in Africa, speed post cheetah, etc

So here is a strange one, I want to tag you all, reader’s and bloggers alike, (yeah yeah another tag) to post a clip of your favourite or funniest comedian, lets share the laughter around for laughter really is the best medicine and even better yet… it’s free :D

So here is my favourite Barry Hilton and his take on going to see a doctor… Hope your stomach hurts as much as mine does from laughing :D

You’re tagged… no pressure… just laughter ;-)

*South African Terms:

Jislike = jeepers / holy moly

Choon = tune / say / said

Bru/bro = brother / mate / friend

A Reader’s Meme…

March 31, 2008

Right so everyone has things they blog about and everyone has things they don’t blog about…

So I’ve decided to set out a challenge for myself to get me out of my comfort zone that I love so much!  I need your help by:

a) Telling me something I don’t blog about, but you’d like to hear about, and I’ll write a post about it - Ask for anything (I mean anything) from the normal latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, religion, life, travel etc.

or

b) Ask me a question about me, music, life, books, anything really

Yeah I know its a nutty challenge for myself but I need to get out of my skin so it is now in your hands

… now I’m scared… ok hit me
