Music Within Me
Music flows through my veins, it keeps my heart pulsing, my soul dancing… For every moment in life a different song comes to mind depending on my mood or how it strikes me. These songs may change over time, they evolve and morph into different ones as my perceptions grow and my nature matures.
There are however a few songs that have stuck by me, from the moment I heard them they were like lightening bolts piercing my soul. Each song has a meaning, each song has many moments. I post quite a few, all the songs that mean anything to me or that I feel represent parts of me or life in general - all of them are under Songs of Substance.
The song that embodies my spirit the best is Gotta Be by Des’ree, when ever I hear this song I can’t help but dance and sing full volume causing cars to swerve and windows to shatter… I love it!
From the moment I heard Radiohead’s Creep it symbolised how I felt growing up, totally abnormal and a species on my own… perhaps that is why this song is so well known and has become a “cult” classic

Hey Jude by the Beatles came into my life during a time when I needed it most, it was as if it found me lying on the street and picked me up putting me back on my feet. I was 14 and had realised that adults couldn’t be trusted, no one could be relied upon apart from yourself.
Muse a band that came into my life during my years in England, there sound is so different to anything else out there. All the new bands seem to sound the same, they came in to my rock n’ roll years, they were wild and crazy but oh the memories! This song is called Time’s Running Out - it was my reality being hooked up with a Cocaine addict…
Sheryl Crows Everyday is a winding Road, guess the lyrics say it all - a time in my life that is over… “I’m just wondering why I feel so all alone, Why I’m a stranger in my own life”
Travis, a band with Scottish accents and lyrics that touch my heart and soul, my favourite by them is Walking in the Sun, about not following what society deems right but rather what is right for you - I have fought society for a long time now, this song fits like a glove
Angie by The Rolling Stones is by far one of the greatest songs ever, perhaps a bit too commercial for some but when ever I hear it I go into a trance like state and get goosebumps all over…
Hmm SO many songs that symbolise so many moments… I have been living a long time so I shall end with Nothing Else Matters by Metallica for now… it’s words are what I stand by… Forever trust in who we are, nothing else matters

So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trust in who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know
So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trust in who we are
No nothing else matters
More to come for sure, I’ll add them as I remember or as my life evolves…
