Just the way you are

At this time in the morning, still awake, Billy Joel is singing to me and this song just struck a cord within me. In light of recent posts, conversations, you name it – so often we aren’t happy just the way we are, we are forever wanting to change our appearances, our inner selves, who we are never accepting ourselves for our true selves what ever that might be… Yes some change is good but not the changes that we do to make others happy and so I leave you with this song, Just the way you are sung by good old Billy 🙂

*Post Note: I feel Amberfireinus has said it exactly the way I meant to in her beautiful post entitled No one is perfect…

Don’t go changing, to try and please me,
You never let me down before,
Don’t imagine, you’re too familiar,
And I don’t see you anymore.

I would not leave you, in times of trouble,
We never could have come this far,
I took the good times, I’ll take the bad times,
I’ll take you just the way you are.

Don’t go trying, some new fashion,
Don’t change the colour of your hair,
You always have my, unspoken passion,
Although I might not seem to care.

I don’t want clever, conversation,
I never want to work that hard,
I just want someone, that I can talk to,
I want you just the way you are.

I need to know that you will always be
The same old someone that I knew,
What will it take till you believe in me,
The way that I believe in you?

I said I love you, and that’s forever,
And this I promise from the heart,
I couldn’t love you, any better,
I love you just the way you are.

I don’t want clever, conversation,
I never want to work that hard,
I just want someone, that I can talk to,
I want you just the way you are.

  1. This song is a very very personal song to me from my past. A song from my first love and the one that still cuts the deepest to my soul. Not because I miss this person, but the injustice they did to me needlessly.

For many years every time I heard this song, I would run into this person… it was like this was our connection. I would hear the song and know he was right around the corner. Bizarre.

Thank you for this… its honestly a beautiful song with beautiful words. It never was true in this situation of which I am speaking. How sad. I love Billy… what an amazing yet tortured soul.

  2. As Sheryl says, the first cut is the deepest 😦 it is like a bruise that slowly fades but still tender to the touch.

Billy definitely is one up on Joe perhaps less of the green grass, perhaps this is why he is more tortured, his lyrics often speak to me. *hugs*
