Toto – Africa

I had a good chuckle tonight (I think I’ve been hanging with old folks.. chuckle???) – I laughed out loud at Angry African’s post “I’m a Zebra. I’m white. I’m black. I’m scary. I’m bad.“.  His writing gets you thinking out of the box on issues that normally get swept under the carpet with his wit and intelligence. This guy is going places in the written world so if there are any publishers reading this go check him out you won’t regret it!!!

AA for you … a thank you for all that you have done and all that you do…

and now Toto’s Africa…

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She’s coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, “Hurry boy, it’s waiting there for you”

Chorus:
It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become

Chorus

(Instrumental break)

Hurry boy, she’s waiting there for you

It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa, I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa, I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

  1. Okay, how did you know that this is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS??????? Seriously, since college, my best friend and I sang it at the top of our lungs constantly, and the song to this day, twenty five years later, still reminds me of her………. thank you so much for this!!!

  2. GREAT SONG! Still have a video and pic somewhere of my son about 4 or 5 years old with headset on, dancing to that song. Still listen to it today and so does he.

  3. Vanessa how on earth did I miss that comment??? Glad you liked the song – is it one of those that you sing with the windows down pumping top volume while you sing top of your voice? *grins*

WC what an incredible memory, one of those heartwarming ones that stay with you for eternity, glad that this post brought it back to you.
